A former chieftain of the PDP and former spokesman of the Godwin Obaseki-led Edo State government, Andrew Emwanta, has revealed details surrounding his departure from the PDP in Edo, amid the exodus of politicians from the party. In his interview, the former commissioner claims that they were discouraged from speaking truth to power.

The Edo State politician addressed the topic, saying, “The party leaders endorsed my nomination, but I noticed that they do not want us to speak the truth to power, and this made me refuse to continue as commissioner. There was a time that I nearly resigned as commissioner, but my permanent secretary urged me to stay. Is it a crime for me to leave the PDP over underdevelopment in my LGA? The government has refused to develop my LGA, and that is why we lost the election. You do not fulfill the promises you made to people during the campaign. The governor was nearly mobbed when he visited Owelu.

He added, “Nothing has been done about the Owelu road as we speak. He went to campaign there in 2020, and the road was not fixed. Again, he returned there in 2023, and they reminded him about the condition of the road. There are two markets in the area, despite the poor condition of the road. I am getting attacked because you hardly see politicians who speak the way that I do.
