The Governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress in Rivers state, Tonye Cole has accused the governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike of using the Nigeria Police Force to suppress the opposition parties in the state. Tonye Cole speaking in an interview with Arise Tv news revealed how the APC in Rivers state managed to get their lawyers released from the police station. He thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for intervening in the situation to get their lawyers from detention.

He alleged that there are two different sects of police currently in Rivers state. He noted that one section works for the Governor of the state while the other work for Nigeria Police Force. He outlined that the difference in there is that the alleged Wike’s police force is being paid better by the state and are given better vehicles to operate. He, however, highlighted that this set of police has been compromised to do the bidding of the state.

He said, ”In Rivers State, we have two Nigeria police force. It’s crazy but we have two sections, we have one that reports directly to Governor Wike, he built a police station for them with his money and they do his bidding immediately. These were the police who went to arrest our lawyers. If you walk around Rivers, ask people where is Wike’s police station and they will tell you.

It was the President that got our lawyers released from Governor Wike’s police station. We called the IGP, NBA and it was the final pressure from the President that got them released. Somebody has given permission to Wike to have his police force and they are tormenting Rivers state. They are members of the Nigeria police force but they are better paid, they have a better vehicle, they have better police station and they report to him.”
