A former governorship candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in Kano State, Salihu Tanko-Yakasai, is set to dump the party and return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a post on X on Wednesday, Tanko-Yakasai said his former principal and the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, asked him to return to the APC and help in “consolidating the gains” of the ruling party

Tanko-Yakasai, who was a media aide to Ganduje during his time as Kano governor, said he has accepted to return to the ruling party and has already withdrawn his membership in the PRP.

He said: “The National Chairman of the APC, His Excellency Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje (OFR), has requested me to return to the APC and continue to give my best in consolidating the gains of the party from top to bottom, which I have gladly accepted.

“I’ve withdrawn my membership from the PRP and will rejoin the APC.”

TrackNews recalls that Tanko-Yakasai had a running battle with Ganduje when the APC chair was governor of Kano state.

Ganduje sacked him in February 2021 after he criticised former President Muhammadu Buhari over his failure to deal with banditry and killings in the North.

Following his criticism, Tanko-Yakasai was detained by the Department of State Services (DSS), but he was later released. However, he dumped the APC for the PRP to contest the Kano governorship seat in the 2023 general election.
