Nigeria A Failed State Under APC, PDP – Attahiru Jega Speaks On Presidential Ambition
Former Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Attairu Jega, has dismissed speculations that he is planning to contest the 2023 presidential election.
Tracknews Online reports that the former INEC boss revealed this while speaking at the maiden inaugural lecture of Kwaravisioners Network for Rural Development, in Ilorin the Kwara State, on Saturday.
Speaking on the theme: “Politics, Governance and Leadership Recruitment in 21st Century Democracy”, Jega said: “I have no presidential ambition, all I am doing is to contribute to a credible, reliable and acceptable process of election and leadership recruitment in the country.”
The former INEC boss stated that Nigeria has failed under the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
According to him, the two parties who have shared federal power amongst themselves for the last 21 years have led the country astray.
He pointed out that to move the country forward,Nigerians have to work hard to change our ways.
Jega stated that due to the way Nigeria leaders attain power, clueless leaders have overseen the country’s local, state and federal government levels.
Warning that the right thing be done so as not to run the country aground, the former INEC chairman called for development of a people-oriented party structure that will be accountable to the people.
According to Jega, Nigerians must also elect only leaders with integrity and competence.
