The administration of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde is said to have influenced the suspension of a traditional title expected to be bestowed on PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar by the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Olalekan Balogun.
According to Track News, the Olubadan intended to bestow the title ‘Aree Akogun Of Ibadan Land’ on Atiku Abubakar.

In a letter released by the monarch, the chieftaincy title, ‘Aree Akogun of Ibadan Land’ simply means ‘The President Of The Brave Ones Of Ibadanland”.

However, in a new statement issued on December 12, the Palace announced the suspension of the ceremony.

According to reports, the PDP crisis was a factor in the postponement of a traditional title expected to be bestowed upon Atiku.

According to a palace source, the decision of the Olubadan Advisory Council has halted the conferment of an honorary title on Atiku.

Another source claims that the Makinde-led government may have played a role in the hasty suspension because of the ongoing feud between the G-5 governors, including Makinde, and Atiku.

Meanwhile, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), told the Saturday Sun that the party’s elders will meet soon to resolve the crisis that has rocked the main opposition party.

He stated that the issues threatening the party’s peace were typical of a political party, and that the crisis would be resolved soon by the BoT’s elders.
