The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has taken decisive steps to address internal discord within its Edo State chapter, appointing a high-level committee to reconcile aggrieved members ahead of the forthcoming governorship election scheduled for September 21.

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has been named as the Chairman of the 11-member committee, with Emmanuel Enoidem, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, serving as Secretary. The committee is mandated to facilitate reconciliation among all factions within the party in Edo State.

Tensions within the Edo PDP escalated following disagreements between Governor Godwin Obaseki, his Deputy Philip Shaibu, and their respective supporters over the party’s gubernatorial candidate. The emergence of two contenders, Philip Shaibu and Asue Ighodalo, further exacerbated the internal divisions within the party.

In addition to Governor Mohammed and Emmanuel Enoidem, other prominent members appointed to the committee include former Governor Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, former Governor Seriake Dickson, and former Akwa Ibom State Military Administrator Tunde Ogheha, among others.
