The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ebonyi State Chapter has reacted after Governor Francis Nwifuru rejected the congratulatory message from its Governorship candidate in 2023 election, Ifeanyi Odii.

A statement obtained by TrackNews signed by Nwoba Chika Nwoba, PDP Publicity Secretary, Ebonyi State stated that a Sunday ago, the Governor of Ebonyi State, Hon. Francis Nwifuru at a function in the Government House announced that he rejected the congratulatory messages sent to him by his two opponents, Chief Ifeanyi Odii of the PDP and Prof. Ben Odo of the APGA, warning that his administration wouldn’t need the inputs of any supporter of the two candidates who pursued their petitions against him up to the Supreme Court.

According to him, “Well, the Governor ought to have known that what would spice up the dish of his administration is robust opposition. Without opposition, his administration would be immaterial, making him an autocratic ruler.

At no point in the congratulatory message of the PDP candidate did he say he was ready to pick up appointments with the administration for himself or supporters.

Mr Governor sir, as a politician you should know that there are many things opponents can do to frustrate an administration. At this juncture, the candidates haven’t threatened that.”

“As the number one citizen of Ebonyi State, your words become authority to a large extent, and so, when you spew out undemocratic statements, you’re advertently telling your supporters to clamp down on anybody or group criticising your administration. For us in the PDP, we’ll be law abiding, but won’t shy away from giving your administration a robust opposition condiment.

We’ll not allow one party system have its way in the state as the citizens are the ones to suffer its adverse effects which are usually overwhelming. We’re PDP and it’s not undemocratic pursuing our case against your party to a logical conclusion using the institutions of law as established by the Nigerian state.

At no point did we beg recognition from your government. Our responsibility is to put your administration in check and that we must carry out to the letter!.”
