In a letter signed by its Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu; and National Secretary, Senator Nnaemeka Anyanwu, the PDP unveiled the new date for the primary as January 26.
The letter, dated January 4, 2022, was addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu.
According to the opposition party, the postponement became necessary due to unforeseen circumstances beyond its immediate control.

Other notable aspirants are former Governor Segun Oni, former Deputy Governor Olusola Eleka, Albert Adaramodu; Aribisala Adewale and Ayodeji Ogunsakin.
