The Governor of Ebonyi State, Gov. David Umahi has revealed that it was the President-elect and presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who urged him to step down for Senator Godswill Akpabio in the race for the 10th Senate presidency.

Gov. David Umahi, however, stated this announcement during an interview with some newsmen on Monday 8th, May 2023 while arriving at the Muhammadu Buhari International Airport, Onueke in Ebonyi state, where he explained that he discussed his bid to run for the senate presidency with the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress and had to accept to his request for the interest of the All Progressives Congress and the South-East zone.

According to Gov. David Umahi, he said, “I discussed the bid with the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, when he was in Paris, and he invited me while returning to Nigeria. It is his right as the President-elect to make commitments and promises, so I had to accept because I did not want to be a clog in the wheel of his progress.”
