A former Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, has reacted to the defections from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

The main opposition in less than a year has lost three governors, David Umahi (Ebonyi), Ben Ayade (Cross River) and Bello Matawalle (Zamfara) to the APC.

PDP has also lost lawmakers in federal and state to the ruling party.

The lawmaker representing Kano Central senatorial district said the defection is part of politics and will not cause tension.

Shekarau stated this while speaking to newsmen at the inspection of constituency projects he initiated across his district.

He added that inter-party movements confirmed Nigerians were still going through the learning process of political development.

He said many developed countries that have stability in their democratic dispensations survived unpleasant experiences.

“Most of the big nations you see today enjoying passed through worse processes than our country.”

“Defections from one party to another should not bother anybody, it is part of the learning process for a stable political system.”

“A large chunk of politicians have moved around almost all parties. There is no cause for alarm if the nation is witnessing another round of defections,” he said.
