Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has given reasons why he did not meet with Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki during his recent visit to the state.

Tracknews reports that Wike earlier in the week met with some PDP delegates at the residence of a former Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), the late Chief Tony Anenih.

The Rivers state governor had been in the state for presidential campaign consultations, but did not meet with Obaseki or his deputy, Philip Shaibu.

In an interview with BBC News Pidgin, Wike explained his reasons.

“I did not visit Governor Godwin Obaseki because the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) did not send me there,” he explained.

“They despatched me to meet with delegates (rather than the Governor) to discuss how our party will win the presidential race in 2023.

“It’s nowhere written that I have to go via the Governor before seeing the party delegates.
