2023 AFCON Qualifier: Why I didn’t invite Orban, Boniface for Sierra Leone game – Peseiro
Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro has revealed the reason behind his decision not to invite Gift Orban and Victor Boniface for his side’s upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone.
Orban and Boniface did well for their respective clubs in the 2022023 season but were not considered for selection by Peseiro.
Orban, who moved to Belgian Pro League club, KAA Gent in January, scored 20 goals in 22 appearances for the Buffalos.
Boniface netted seven times and provided seven assists in 31 appearances across all competitions for Union Saint Gilloise.
Peseiro insisted that the duo are still in his plans despite their omission.
“I believe in Orban and Boniface, I spent my own money to visit them and if I should call them it means I will have to take some of the ones currently in camp out,” the Portuguese told journalists in Lagos.
“So for Orban, Boniface and others they still have time. I understand that despite playing well they didn’t get an invitation but remember the likes of Osimhen, Awoniyi all did well last season,” he added
