EPL table: It’s unacceptable – Kyle Walker slams Man City teammates for losing lead to Arsenal
Manchester City right-back, Kyle Walker, has hit out at the performance of his teammates after they slipped up in the English Premier League title race by drawing 1-1 against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
Having beaten title rivals Arsenal 3-1 last Wednesday night at Emirates Stadium to go top of the table, many expected Man City to maintain their lead when they clashed with Nottingham Forest City Ground.
However, Pep Guardiola’s side failed to beat Forest as goals from Bernardo Silva and Chris Wood ensured both teams drew.
This result, combined with Arsenal’s thrilling 4-2 comeback win against Aston Villa in the early kick-off on Saturday, means the Gunners are now two points ahead of Man City on the log with a game in hand and Walker believes it is a huge blow for the Citizens.
“First and foremost, we go to the Emirates and play the game we did and then come here. It is unacceptable,” Walker told BBC Sport.
“If we want to compete with teams near the top, we need to win. We missed a few chances, and we need to do better as a team.
“Sometimes it is football and sometimes it is emotion. Every game should be treated the same – like a cup final. What can I say other than it’s unacceptable? We have to stick together as a group.
“The senior members of the team put our thoughts across. That is just not acceptable. We have to give credit to Nottingham Forest. They dug in and hung on. We have to do better.”
He added, “The hard work we did on Wednesday has not gone to waste, but this is a blow because you put that good shift in on Wednesday and played a game that we are not used to with the low percent of possession.”
