Erling Haaland Leaves Norway Camp With Injury
Manchester City forward, Erling Haaland will not be available for the Norway national team for their 2024 qualifying match against Scotland on Sunday, November 19.
Norwegian Football Federation announced earlier today, November 18, that Haaland would not be fit enough for the important game, which means that he would have to return to Manchester City to commence recuperation.
“He is in so much pain and somewhat restricted function that the Scotland game unfortunately comes a little too early,” Norway national team doctor Ola Sand announced via the Norwegian FA official website.
Haaland, who is currently 23-year-old, sustained the injury during Norway’s friendly win over the Faroe Islands on Thursday.
Even though the reigning Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup winner will miss the qualification game due to the injury, the Norway FA confirmed that the injury is not as serious as anticipated.
At the time of writing, it is not clear whether Haaland will miss Manchester City’s Premier League game against Liverpool on Saturday, November 25 due to the injury.
Scotland and Spain have advanced to the finals in Germany next summer, and Norway—which is currently third in their group—may advance through the play-offs.
Haaland, who has scored 27 goals in 29 senior international games—including one in June against Scotland—won’t be replaced on the team, according to Norway.
Scotland and Norway will play at Hampden on Sunday, while Spain host Georgia. Scotland are going into the last round of qualification games leading two points over second-placed Spain in Group A after defeating Norway 2-1 in Oslo.
