He’s serious player – Rio Ferdinand hails Arsenal star for leaving Emirates
Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand has praised Charlie Patino over the youngster’s decision to dump Arsenal in search of greater first-team football opportunities.
Ferdinand also believes Folarin Balogun may be plotting to move away from the Emirates Stadium this summer.
The 19-year-old Patino, who is regarded as one of the best youngsters at the Emirates, has been on loan at Blackpool this season, making 33 appearances for the Championship side.
He is now set to leave Arsenal this summer as he is not keen on another loan.
Ferdinand believes that Patino has made a brave decision over his decision to leave the club, calling on other youngsters, not just at Arsenal, to learn to take such a decision.
He especially called on England U-21 star, Folarin Balogun to follow suit instead of staying at a club where he would not even be the third choice striker, with the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah far ahead of him in Arteta’s pecking order.
Balogun, on loan at French Ligue1 side Reims, has scored 18 times in 32 appearances this season.
“I think he’s a serious player,” Ferdinand said of Patino on FIVE.
“Obviously, Arsenal wanted to trigger a clause that they could keep him and sign another extension until 2025. I think it’s a testament to the kid.
“For young kids, it’s a big point in their career. Balogun has a big decision to make too.
“I think Charlie Patino has made up his mind and wanted to go elsewhere.”
