I’m All About My Business At 2023 World Cup – Asisat Oshoala
Super Falcons of Nigeria forward, Asisat Oshoala has revealed that she is often more focused on doing her job as a footballer than being nervous over a huge crowd.
Asisat Oshoala is currently the leading figure in the Super Falcons’ team at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup which is currently ongoing in Australia and New Zealand.
The Super Falcons are upbeat going into their second match against co-hosts Australia on Thursday, July 27, after drawing their World Cup opener against Canada, the top-ranked team in Group B.
Asisat Oshoala is arguably the most famous player among all the African women’s players at the tournament due to her exceptional talent and accomplishments with both the FC Barcelona women’s team and the Super Falcons.
The two-time Champions League winner, who enjoys a passionate following in Africa, is conscious of the fact that many young people look up to her but that won’t distract her from doing her job on the pitch.
“When I step my foot on the pitch, I don’t think about the crowd any longer. Some people say they get nervous when the crowd is too much, but for me, it is different,” Asisat Oshoala told the BBC.
“I’m just out there to do my job, I’m about my business.”
She added, “This is top-level football, and it demands self-reflection. Even if you win the game, you have to ask yourself questions like, ‘Ok, maybe I could be better with the pass’ or whatever.
“There are a whole lot of kids out there in Africa who actually to me; they tell me ‘you’re my icon, you’re my idol,’ and all of that, so I just keep doing what I’m doing.
“That’s why I always say when I play games, I just want to have fun. I want to score goals. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the end.”
