Napoli Coach Spalletti breaks silence on Koulibaly transfer deal
By Adeleye Kunle
The transfer of Teranga Lions of Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly to Chelsea is ‘almost’ complete, according to Napoli head coach Luciano Spalletti, Track News reports.
Koulibaly, 30, is set to join Chelsea, according to multiple sources, with the two clubs expected to reach an agreement today.
Spalletti informed Napoli players on Tuesday that ‘Koulibaly is almost gone,’ openly admitting that the defender will leave the club in the summer, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.
The club’s contract extension offer was rejected by Koulibaly. As a result, with only a year left on his contract at the Stadio Maradona, Napoli must sell their star defender this summer.
During his eight-year tenure at the club, Koulibaly has appeared in 317 games. During his time under the Vesuvius, he won one Coppa Italia and one Italian Supercup.
He captained Senegal to victory in the African Cup of Nations in January, the country’s first international trophy.
