Why Barcelona’s Dembele watch Sunderland, Sheffield Utd clash at Stadium of Light
The reason why Barcelona forward, Ousmane Dembele, watched Sunderland’s clash against Sheffield United at the Stadium of Light on Wednesday has been revealed.
Dembele was spotted paying a surprise visit to the Stadium of Light, home of Championship side Sunderland, on March 15.
The France international is currently recovering from a hamstring injury he sustained during Barcelona’s 1-0 win against Girona in January.
The former Dortmund star watched on as Sunderland fell to a 2-1 defeat to Sheffield United.
His presence in the director’s box at the Stadium of Light caused quite a stir on social media as the reason behind his visit was unclear.
However, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Dembele was at the Stadium of Light because he was a close friend of Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, the club’s owner.
Romano tweeted: “Ousmane Dembélé was at Sunderland vs Sheffield Utd game as he’s big friend with Sunderland’s French 25-year old owner Kyril Louis Dreyfus.
“Here, Dembélé and Dreyfus together in Miami five years ago,” he posted a picture of both men
