Why D’banj was detained – ICPC
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, confirmed Mr. Oladipo Daniel Oyebanjo, also known by his stage name D’Banj, was arrested and detained on Wednesday for alleged diversion of N-Power funds.
President Muhammadu Buhari established the N-Power scheme on June 8, 2016, to address issues of youth unemployment and empowerment, as well as to help increase social development.
According to a statement issued by the ICPC’s spokesperson Azuka Ogugua in Abuja, the ICPC has invited about ten people in connection with the N-Power fraud over the last few months.
Ogugua stated that D’banj turned himself in and was arrested today, and that he is currently being interrogated to determine the circumstances surrounding the allegations.
“In accordance with its mandate, the Commission had received numerous petitions on the diversion of N-Power funds totaling billions of naira following the approval and release of such funds to the beneficiaries by the Federal Government,” the statement said. Many N-Power beneficiaries had complained about not receiving their monthly funds despite the fact that the government had paid them.
“The ICPC has summoned approximately ten people in connection with the N-Power fraud in recent months, and they have been granted administrative bail following their detention.” Several invitations to appear before a team of investigators were ignored and not honored by Mr. Oladipo Daniel Oyebanjo.
“Mr. Oyebanjo turned himself in and was taken into custody at the ICPC Headquarters on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, and is currently assisting investigators in unraveling the circumstances of the petitioners’ fraud allegations.”
“The investigation will be broad and will include other fraud collaborators as well as the banks where the beneficiaries’ accounts are held.”
“In light of recent media reports, this press release has become necessary to set the record straight.” The investigation is still ongoing, and the Commission prefers not to predict its outcome while also avoiding the media frenzy.”
