Alleged organ harvesting: Nigerian doctor charged in UK with plotting with Ekweremadu

Obinna Obeta, a Nigerian doctor living in the United Kingdom, has been accused of conspiring with former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, to traffic a homeless man into the country in order to harvest a kidney for their daughter.

Obeta, 50, appeared in Bexley Magistrate Court on Thursday, July 13, and was charged under the Modern Slavery Act with arranging the travel of a 21-year-old man with the intent of exploiting him between August of last year and May of this year.

According to the Track News, a second charge alleges Obeta conspired with the former Senate President to arrange or facilitate the man’s travel in order for him to be exploited, specifically for organ harvesting.

Recall that the Ekweremadu are being tried in the UK on charges of organ harvesting after a 21-year-old man, David Ukpo, who they brought to the UK, approached the police and claimed to be treated as a slave and to be “15” years old. The Nigerian politician and his wife were detained in the United Kingdom on June 21 after arriving at Heathrow from Turkey.

David lied about his age, as the biodata on his Nigerian bank accounts and the National Identity Management Commission NIMC showed he was 21 years old.

Obeta was charged on Thursday with arranging or facilitating another person’s travel for the purpose of exploitation and conspiring with Ike Ekweremadu.
