BREAKING: Tribunal Affirms Election Victory Of Adamawa State Governor Fintiri
The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Yola, Adamawa State, has affirmed Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri as the governor of the state.
TrackNews Media reports that the tribunal upheld the election while dismissing the petition filed by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Aishatu Dahiru Binani.
Binani had challenged the outcome of the March 18 election and the April 18 declaration of Fintiri as the winner following the April 16 supplementary election.
The supplementary poll was marred by controversy, with the then Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Adamawa State, Hudu Yunusa-Ari, announcing Binani as the winner before the collation of results was completed.
INEC later nullified Yunusa-Ari’s decision and suspended him, while the then President, Muhammadu Buhari, ordered a full investigation on the electoral commissioner and the security personnel that were around him when he made the declaration.
INEC then concluded the election and announced Fintiri as the winner. Fintiri polled 430,861 votes, while Aisha Binani got 398,738 votes.
Recall that on October 2, the tribunal led by Justice Theodore Uloho dismissed the petition filed by Dr. Umar Ardo of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
