Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has denied reports that he has returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Dogara made the denial through his media aide, Turaki Hassan, while reacting to a social media report that he had returned to the ruling party following his meeting with the APC governorship candidate in Bauchi State, Air Marshal Sadiq Baba Abubakar.

Speaking to Track News on Monday, Hassan said his principal is still a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and has not defected to the APC.

He stated that Dogara supported the PDP standard bearer, Atiku Abubakar, and the party’s candidates during the February 25 presidential and national assembly elections.

Hassan, however, said Dogara is backing Abubakar to become the next governor of Bauchi State and all APC candidates in the state assembly elections.

He said: “It is not true. All his candidates are in APC except the presidential

“His proteges won house of representatives and senate and he is supporting Air Marshal Sadiq Baba Abubakar for Bauchi governorship. Also, all [his] state house of assembly candidates are in APC.”

Naijanews reports that Dogara left the PDP for APC following his running battle with the state governor, Bala Mohammed, over the leadership of the party in the state.

He, however, left the ruling party in 2022 because of the APC’s Muslim-Muslim ticket, which he and a former Secretary of the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, vehemently opposed and returned to the PDP in December after he declared support for Atiku.
