Fintiri pardons 25 inmates
Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has pardoned 15 inmates serving various prison terms at different correctional institutions across the state in commemoration of Nigeria’s 61st Independence Anniversary.
A statement issued by Mr Solomon Kumangar, the Director-General, Media and Communication to the governor, yesterday in Yola, said the inmates were serving various prison terms in Yola, Numan and new custodial centres in the state.
“The governor acting on the advice of the Advisory Committee on Prerogative of Mercy, and in the exercise of the powers conferred on him under Section 212(i) (d) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, commuted the remainder of the sentences of fifteen reformed prisoners.
“The release is to take effect after all legal formalities have been concluded with the correctional institutions,” the statement reads.
According to the director-general, the state government has prepared to mark the independence anniversary at Mahmud Ribadu Square on Friday in Yola.
