Gov Adeleke approves 15,000 monthly palliatives for civil servants,10,000 for pensioners

To mitigate the impact of the subsidy removal, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun has approved a significant relief initiative for the state’s civil servants and pensioners.

The Governor’s office released a circular through the Ministry of Human Resources and Capacity Building, announcing a wage award aimed at cushioning the effects of the subsidy removal.

According to the circular signed by Permanent Secretary Sunday Olugbenga Fadele, active workers are set to receive a monthly N15,000 wage award, while pensioners will benefit from a N10,000 monthly support.

Governor Adeleke emphasized that this action aligns with his administration’s commitment to prioritizing workers’ welfare, marking the commencement of a series of palliative measures to address the challenges stemming from the subsidy removal.

The circular stated that this wage award initiative will span six months, starting from December, with the expectation that it will alleviate immediate financial strains caused by the policy change.

“Sequel to the negotiation meetings and interactions with labour movement in Osun state, including the representatives of Nigeria Union of Pensioners, the Governor of Osun State, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, has approved the monthly payment of N15,000 to each active worker and N10,000 to each pensioners in Osun state as palliatives to assuage the pains being experienced as a result of removal of petroleum subsidy by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“The payment, as approved, is to commence from the month of December, 2023 for a period of six (6) months,” the circular reads in part.

Acknowledging the understanding and support of Osun state workers and pensioners, the Governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, affirmed the administration’s unwavering dedication to ensuring the welfare of workers remains a top priority.

This move is anticipated to provide immediate relief and foster increased dedication and commitment among state workers, reinforcing the positive relationship between the government and its employees.
