Jigawa contributes 75% of Nigeria’s non-oil exports – Governor Namadi
Jigawa State Governor, Mallam Umar Namadi has said the state is contributing over 75% of Nigerian non-oil exports in 2023.
He stated this at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Jigawa State and the Nigeria-Arabian Gulf Chamber of Commerce (NAGCC), held in Dutse, the state capital.
He said the aim was to promote trade and industrialization in Jigawa State.
“Like I said, sesame and hibiscus contributed 75% of Nigeria’s exports last year. And I want to assure you that ninety percent of that sesame and hibiscus came from Jigawa. So, invariably, we contribute 75% of Nigerian non-oil exports,” he said.

Dr. Kassim Gidado, speaking on behalf of the Nigerian Arabian Gulf Chamber of Commerce (NAGCC), emphasized the organization’s dedication to enhancing economic ties between Jigawa State and the Gulf region.
He noted that the journey towards this collaboration began on October 26, 2023, culminating in the development of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the involved parties.
Gidado highlighted the significant potential of Jigawa State, particularly in industries such as sesame seeds, hibiscus, and solid minerals.
He said the MoU aims to promote those products, leveraging Jigawa’s comparative advantages, and attract investments for export-ready industries.
NAGCC pledges to realize these objectives by leveraging their trade and regional houses situated in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
