Following the controversies surrounding the closure of the Dangote Cement Company in Obajana, the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (NSChE) has urged concerned stakeholders to engage in peaceful dialogue in order to mitigate the negative effects of the ongoing squabble on the company’s employees.

According to Saidu Aliyu Mohammed, President of the Association, “the sudden disruption is a major threat to the lives and livelihoods of the most vulnerable stakeholders in the production site, which are thousands of direct and indirect employees of the company.”
“Cement production plant is a traditional treasure house of chemical engineers, among all other skilled professionals that underpin an industrial economy,” he said. “Therefore, NSChE appeals for sustained dialogue between Kogi State government, led by Governor Yahaya Bello, and President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, to resolve the contentious issues that will threaten business continuity.”

He praised President Muhammadu Buhari for his intervention, which allowed the Cement Plant to reopen.

While praising both parties for positively responding to the President’s intervention, he urged them to commit to peaceful dialogue to fully resolve the contentious issues, or to use peaceful legal procedures in courts as a last resort.
