Despite unconfirmed Premium Motor Spirit rates, some major petroleum marketers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) maintained N165 to N175 per litre on Tuesday (PMS).

According to media reports, Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, the product’s sole importer, notified marketers of a pump price increase effective Tuesday.

Garba Malam Deen Muhammad, Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, did not respond to inquiries from The Nation seeking confirmation of the upward review.

He ignored the situation-related text messages.

Furthermore, Apollo Kimchi, General Manager of the Corporate Communications Department at the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), remained deafeningly silent on the subject.

In contrast, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) said it was still waiting for the NMDPRA’s official rate.

“We (IPMAN) are still waiting for the official rate,” said Alhaji Debo Ahmed, president of the organization.

Track News Nigeria conducted an investigation into the petrol market and discovered that Total in Zone 6 and Wuse in Zone 5 both sold the product for N165 per litre.
