Concerns As Lawan Designates Shettima As APC Presidential Candidate
On Wednesday morning, the President of the Nigerian Senate, Ahmad Lawan, expressed concern after referring to the former Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, as the All Progressives Congress’ presidential candidate on social media (APC).
According to Track News, the Senator Representing Yobe North Senatorial District took to his verified Twitter handle on Wednesday morning to share photos of his meeting with APC stakeholders, including Shettima, the party’s presidential candidate.”Met yesterday with stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress from Yobe State, including our great party’s presidential candidate, Senator Kashim Shettima,” Lawan tweeted. The now-deleted post, however, has raised concerns as netizens inquire about Tinubu’s candidacy for president in 2023.Some wondered if Lawan was sending a message to the Nigerian public, while others wondered if the APC only made Tinubu, a former Governor of Lagos State, a placeholder with Shettima as their primary candidate in mind. Before Lawan deleted the post, some netizens implied that the South-West had been duped by the Northerners’ gimmicks. Some claimed that the ruling party took advantage of Tinubu’s desperation and appointed him as the APC’s flagbearer until the 2023 election.
