The crisis afflicting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chapter in Ogun State has worsened as the situation has taken another turn.
According to Track News, despite the Federal High Court’s ruling on September 22 that nullified all PDP primaries in the state and the pending judgment of the Court scheduled for December 1 in Abuja, one of the governorship aspirants, Segun Showunmi, has come out to claim that he is the Ogun PDP candidate.

He stated that he had studied the merits and technicalities of all the cases pending in court over the PDP governorship ticket, and that he would continue to be the party’s candidate.

Showunmi expressed confidence that his name would appear on the ballot as the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 election.

His claims follow a pending decision by a Federal High Court in Abuja on the party’s governorship ticket, set for December 1.

Another PDP aspirant in the state, Jimi Lawal, who also ran in the May 25 governorship primary election, had contested Oladipupo Adebutu’s election.

Lawal claims that the PDP fraudulently used an illegal and invalid delegates list to conduct the election, so he asks the court to, among other things, cancel the May 25 primary election and hold a new one with the authentic Adhoc delegates.

However, according to Track News, Showunmi insisted, “I have looked at all the cases.” I have studied the complexities of those cases, and I can assure you that I, Otunba Olusegun Showunmi, am the PDP governorship candidate in Ogun State.”

He also stated that he recently met with Adebutu to discuss how they can all find a common ground to resolve the party’s crisis.

He warned his supporters not to engage in a verbal brawl with other factions of the Ogun PDP, adding that “our party is our party.”
