Hashim Suleiman Dungurawa, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Kano chapter, has demanded the resignation of the party’s national chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, for alleged incompetence.
“We in Kano PDP have concluded arrangements to serve the national chairman with a notice of a vote of no confidence, because worst of all is his decision not to obey court orders in respect of the ongoing party leadership tussle in Kano PDP,” he said.

There is a power struggle in Kano state between Alhaji Muhammed Dani Abacha and Alhaji Sadiq Wali over who is the genuine governorship candidate.

Earlier, during an interview with the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Risqua Shehu, he revealed that the INEC will only recognize the Congress in which the body participated, and not a parallel one, which was held by the state chairman of the party that produced Alhaji Muhammed Sani Abacha.

However, in a recent INEC announcement, Alhaji Muhammed Sani Abacha’s name was missing, while Sadiq Wali’s name was pasted on the name of the respective party’s governorship candidate.

According to him, the opposition party’s national chairman has failed to reconcile disgruntled party units.

He claimed that the Ayu-led leadership was unable to heal the party’s wounds and instead strangled the party’s strength.

Dungurawa, the factional vice chairman of the PDP in Kano North, stated that Ayu’s appointment as the party’s national leader has exacerbated the party’s internal crisis.

Speaking in Hausa on a political program on a Kano-based private radio station, he stated that “the national chairman of our party is static and stagnant in his leadership style.”

“Since taking over the leadership of our party, he has not consulted widely, he has not thought it wise to travel around the country to meet with leaders and members of our great party to have a broad view of the true situation in the party,” he said.

“His style is not worth how to run a great party like PDP,” he added. He stays at home or goes to the party office when it suits him; he is disconnected from the realities that surround our party.”

“Ayu was democratically elected as our party’s leader, but with what we have seen and what is now happening, we are appealing to him in the name of God to resign his office in order to save our party from destruction,” he added.
