Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chapter in Osun state has called Governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s administration’s refusal to provide a venue for the party’s mega rally “shameful.”

According to Dr. Akindele Adekunle, the party’s Caretaker Chairman, the party was denied use of the stadium, Technical College field, and Freedom Park for the final campaign program.

He went on to say that the action revealed the state government’s intention to incite violence and disrupt Saturday’s peaceful election.

“The leadership of our party decided to hold our Mega Rally in the vicinity of our state secretariat after extensive consultations with prominent stakeholders in the state, including our highly revered royal fathers.”

“Our party considers the state government’s action to be an insult to a dying horse and a deliberate attempt to elicit violent reactions from the good people of Osun State, thereby instigating a crisis in the state,” said the party. It is a disgrace and a stain on the noble race of Yorubas for a governor living on tax payers’ money to descend so low.

“Any reasonable government understands that public facilities are meant to be used by the public.” Even before Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola retraced his history to Osun State from Lagos for political trading, successive administrations in the state had put in place and adequately maintained the main bowl of the Osogbo City Stadium for use by our people.

“We are well aware that Mr Gboyega Oyetola’s refusal to grant our party the necessary permission to use the facility was simply a warm-up for the large-scale violence he has planned against the state.” We want to reassure him and his coworkers that he will be matched.

“As lawful residents of the State, we will resist any attempt to undermine our people’s electoral verdict.” Underestimating this determination will not be in his or the country’s best interests.

“While we urge President Mohammadu Buhari to be aware of the brewing crisis in Osun State, we also urge our people not to be discouraged by Mr Oyetola’s defeatist antics and his baby vuvuzelas.” “This election is about our people and humanity in general, not just the PDP or Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke,” he said.

However, Sunday Akere, Special Adviser to Governor Adegboyega Oyetola on Political Affairs, stated that the party lacked organization and waited for other groups to book the aforementioned venues.

He went on to say that not having a venue has nothing to do with thugs being deployed, and he urged security personnel to be aware of the PDP’s threat.

“It is unfortunate that, due to a lack of proper organization, the PDP decided to book the venues after other groups had done so.” Other parties have used many public facilities, but this has no bearing on who wins an election.

“A youth group has reserved the stadium ahead of them,” he explained, “while the mini bus union has reserved the freedom park.”
