Omoyele Sowore, a rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has claimed that his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, Peter Obi, was part of the former President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration that was unable to solve the country’s electricity problems.

Sowore made the remark on Thursday, after Obi lamented the failure of the national grid, which had plunged the country into darkness, and asked if the former Anambra governor had learned anything from his recent trip to Egypt.

“Reports that the national power grid has collapsed for the sixth time in seven months is alarming,” Obi said on his verified Twitter account. Many Nigerians have once again been left in the dark and without electricity.

“Such negative parameters are not only indicators of governance failure, but also a powerful motivator for leadership change.”

“The government must fulfill its statutory responsibilities in order to prevent socioeconomic incidents that cause extreme shock and stress among the national population.”

Sowore responded to Obi’s tweets by saying, “What a puerile response! @PeterObi advised the @GEJonathan @OfficialPDPNig government, and the electricity situation did not improve; you recently traveled to Egypt to “learn” how their electricity works. Did you not learn anything? Why are you acting as if you just found out?”

In a related development, Sowore, a staunch critic of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), chastised former vice president and PDP standard bearer, Atiku Abubakar, for complaining about the country’s blackout on Wednesday.

Sowore stated that Atiku was the VP when his principal, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, budgeted $16 billion to resurrect power but achieved little.

“I am reliably informed that there was a total National Grid Collapse at precisely 12:23pm today,” Atiku said on his verified Twitter handle. This is one too many collapses. This is the sixth time this has happened this year.”

Sowore responded to Atiku’s post by saying, “The National Electrical grid collapse began when you and Obasanjo invested $16 billion to procure darkness for Nigeria, and the @MBuhari regime came to gazete grid collapse as a law.” Don’t pretend to care about the National Grid, Alhaji @atiku!”
