Dickson Calls For Support For WBC Light Heavy African Champion
••DONATES #2 Million To Encourage Him
The Senator representing Bayelsa West in the National Assembly, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has called on public-spirited Nigerians and institutions to give targeted support to the current World Boxing Council Light Heavy Weight Champion of Africa, Godday Appah.
Senator Dickson who hosted the boxer and his technical crew donated N2 million to him as part of the efforts to promote talented boxers in the country.
The Senator said that he was impressed and encouraged by the performance and exploits of the boxer from Southern Ijaw Local Government of Bayelsa.
The Senator stressed that Appah is one of the highest boxers in the country today and should be given the requisite encouragement to go to the global stage.
He said, “I am happy here to celebrate and honor this young man, Mr Godday Appah, who is a champion from Bayelsa, Champion of the Ijaw Nation, and champion from Nigeria.
“And as of today, he is one of the highest boxers from Nigeria, he is not just a Nigerian champion, not just a west Africa champion, he is an African champion.
“And I congratulate and call for support for him, I call for Institutional support, I call on all individuals who are in a position to support to join all of us to promote his career.
“This young man has the capacity to become world heavy weight champion for our people. Congratulations once again, thank you and God bless you.” He said
The boxer, Appah, said that he started his boxing career in Bayelsa before moving to Abuja to take it to the continental stage now.
