NGA 1-0 ZAM: Match Review As Golden Eaglets Begin Their U17 AFCON Quest With A Hard-Fought Victory
The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria on Sunday afternoon kicked off their 2023 U17 African Cup of Nations quest on a remarkable note, following their hard-earned 1-0 win over Zambia at the Mohamed-Hamlaoui Stadium in Constantine, Algeria.
The Nigerian boys entered the 2023 U17 opener against Zambia off the back of their impressive 2-1 win over Burkina Faso in their last qualifier, and they were looking for another victory on Sunday to begin the competition on an impressive note.
The Golden Eaglets started the game well as they mount a series of attacks on their opponent but were unable to find the back of the net until the 77th minute when Favour Daniel pounce on a loose ball to give his team a well-deserved lead. The Nduka Ugbade-led team was presented with a golden opportunity to double their lead in the closing stages of the game when a penalty was awarded to them, but unfortunately, Light Eke couldn’t convert the spot kick, and the game ended 1-0 in favor of the West Africans.
Nigerian U17 head coach, Nduka Ugbade presented a very strong squad for the game on Sunday, choosing some of the best legs in the team for the contest.
