How Slain DPO Was Deceived By Cultists – Rivers CP Narrates
The Commissioner of Police for Rivers State, Emeka Nwonyi, has stated that the late Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahoada, Bako Angbashim, fell victim to a deceptive ploy set by his killers.
The cultists had tricked the Superintendent of Police, convincing him they were willing to surrender their weapons in exchange for amnesty.
This revelation was made during a solidarity protest led by human rights advocate Charles Jaja at the state Police Command headquarters in Port Harcourt.
Nwonyi expressed his regret that Angbashim put his trust in the miscreants, only to realize their deceit in his final moments.
He emphasized that the cultists have now provoked a severe response from the police force. Nwonyi added that the ultimate sacrifice was not the fitting reward for officers who leave their families to safeguard lives and property.
The Commissioner urged patriotic citizens to take advantage of the N100 million bounty offered by Governor Siminalayi Fubara for information leading to the arrest of the prime suspect, Gift Okpara Okpolowu, and his accomplices. He encouraged citizens to act as whistleblowers for their own benefit and for the greater good of society.
In the meantime, Jaja expressed his condolences for the tragic loss of Angbashim, highlighting the significance of the solidarity protest. He called for the identification and prosecution of politicians who support criminal gangs.
SP Angbashim was ambushed by daring cultists during a raid on criminal hideouts in Odiemudie community, Ahoada East LGA. Despite his valiant efforts, he ran out of ammunition and sustained injuries while trying to escape, leading to his capture.
Tragically, the cultists brutally attacked and decapitated him, recording the horrifying act
