Rotimi Akeredolu, governor of ONDO State, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fighting poverty and promoting public welfare.

He stated that the state will maintain its leadership in fiscal transparency, accountability, and poverty reduction, as confirmed by the legislature.

National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) report based on World Bank data.

The data highlighted the economic impact of the Akeredolu Administration’s REDEEMED agenda and poverty reduction measures. In 2022, Ondo State has the lowest multidimensional poverty index of the 36 states in the federation.

The World Bank frequently employs the Multidimensional Poverty Index to capture a more complete picture of poverty. According to the report, Ondo State has the lowest percentage of deprived households across three dimensions of well-being: education, monetary poverty, and basic infrastructure services.

According to Akeredolu, the low poverty incidence in Ondo State is proof that targeted plans aligned with the sustainable development goals are improving the state’s economy and reducing poverty.

He stated that his government’s faith in free markets and people’s ingenuity led to the establishment of the Ondo State Entrepreneurship Agency (ONDEA), which is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and stimulated economic development agenda, particularly in the impactful areas of funding, digitalization, skills acquisition, education, value exchange, and human capital development.

He also stated that ONDEA has prioritized the empowerment of micro and macro entrepreneurs, and that the state has reaped the benefits.

“In our efforts to transition the state to an industrial state, our initiatives such as the Oil Palm, Red Gold initiative have created over 5,000 jobs; Ondo-Linyi Industrial Park in r has created over 2,000 jobs; and the afforestation revitalization scheme has generated over 1,000 jobs,” Akeredolu said. Other private companies in the state are also doing the same.”
