How Ekiti security outfit, Amotekun, parades suspected fraudsters, destroy shrine

The Ekiti State security outfit Commandant, Brigadier-General Joe Komolafe, confirmed the arrest of five suspected fraudsters at Ikere-Ekiti.

The alleged perpetrators were described by the Commandant as serial con artists.

“Their modus operandi is that they will call you, tell you they have seen vision for you for your life to be ok, go and bring this, go and bring that,” General Komolafe explained. They dupe people to the point where the victims are threatened with losing every member of their family.

“How did it all begin?” My colleague in Ogun State called to tell me that one of the people living in Abeokuta, Ogun State, had been duped to the tune of N2.5 million or so by some group in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State, threatening to kill him, and that I should please assist.”

He claimed that it was at that point that his men began to track down the alleged fraudsters in Ikere-Ekiti, and that God granted them success.

“Here we are,” he says, “five of them were arrested in their shrines at Ikere.” We were able to destroy some of the shrines and bring some of them to our office.

“We are conducting a thorough investigation to find more such suspects.” These are not the only people we are looking for in the state; they are only a subset of those we are looking for. We went to Atikankan once to arrest some of them.”

The Commandant stated that the hunt for such unscrupulous elements in various parts of the State is ongoing, and that the Command will not relent because those involved in the nefarious act outnumber those already in the net.

“I know there are other shrines in Ikere; this is just a location.” “We’ll be there,” he said.

Udany James, a forty-year-old farmer from Benue State, told journalists that the suspects hoodwinked him by calling him on the phone and telling him that they were spiritualists and that he should reach out to them for prayer based on their visions.
